CAN I ACCESS THIS ON THE NHS?The NHS offers a range of psychotherapeutic services and CBT is a preferred treatment method for depression and anxiety. Unfortunately, with NHS services the waiting lists are long ranging from months to years and when you do get round to treatment you will only be able to access a set number of sessions, usually at set times and of a set frequency which may not be what you would like or need. This is why some turn to private treatment where there won’t be a wait and the times and frequency of sessions are what you need.

IS THERE A DIFFERENCE IN THE EFFECTIVENESS OF REMOTE V FACE TO FACE THERAPY?When COVID started services were left with little choice but to practice remotely for a period, since then a lot of therapy is still being delivered remotely even within the NHS, because it works and has a number of positive benefits. For example, you save time spent travelling to get to a clinic, you can fit it around your existing schedule without having to block out large chunks of time, you’re getting professional help from the safety of wherever you want to do the sessions from, its accessible if you have physical limitations and if you opt for telephone sessions, you don’t have to show your face if you don’t want to. There’s numerous pieces of research out there which shows that electronically delivered therapy is just as effective than face to face therapy. Reference: (Luo C, Sanger N, Singhal N, et al. A comparison of electronically-delivered and face to face cognitive behavioural therapies in depressive disorders: A systematic review and meta-analysis, EClinicalMedicine, 2020;24:100442. doi:10.1016/j.eclinm.2020.100442).
